our personal Parkinson's disease journey
"Our art provides reminders of what love looks like—in real life, in real homes, and in real hearts."
~ Lisa Matway
Matway Overton Design (mod) is more than an art studio—it's a movement fueled by passion, resilience, and purpose. Founded by husband-and-wife team Jerry Overton and Lisa Matway, "mod" was born from a deeply personal journey with Parkinson’s disease.
When Jerry—a lifelong marathon runner—was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2018, he turned his focus inward, applying the same dedication to movement, rhythm, and balance that once carried him across finish lines. His daily battle with Parkinson’s inspired Lisa to channel those same principles into her art—creating vivid, emotionally rich pieces that explore motion, fluidity, and human strength. It is this contrast—between what the body endures and what the heart preserves—that fuels their creative practice.
Each "mod" creation tells a story of connection resulting from illness. Each piece reflects a facet of their evolving story: the joy once found in simple acts, the fear and resilience embedded in experiences of major surgeries, and the network of care from friends and community. Jerry shares his feelings and Lisa translate to color on canvas. These works explore how identity, relationships, and daily life transform under the weight—and sometimes the unexpected beauty—of chronic illness.
Through their art, they aim to give form - through color, brush strokes, and layers - to the emotional landscape of Parkinson’s—its disruptions, its moments of tenderness, its demands for adaptability, and its quiet victories. They invite viewers to think about their own lives, to see beyond the diagnosis and witness the lived experience of connection and devotion: how they continue choosing one another, how they keep showing up, how love becomes both anchor and compass when the wind shifts.
A portion of all proceeds go directly to Parkinson’s research and support programs, helping those living with Parkinson’s and the care partners who stand beside them.
Support the movement. Take home a piece of purpose.
